The new bar at Bribie Island continues to reshape the Pumicestone Passage with the opening now almost 500 metres in width. Recently formally recognised as a bar crossing, the authorities warn that the Bribie Island Bar is still very dynamic and dangerous. Extreme caution must be taken in and around the bar with advice to mariners to plan any crossings in advance, taking into consideration the weather, tides, and draft of vessel. All occupants of vessels under 4.8m in length must be wearing a lifejacket when crossing a coastal bar.
